Authentic Morocco: An Interview with Ryan Magri of Alizés Travel

At Sunday Vacations, we believe that the best way to travel is to connect deeply with a destination—its people, its culture, and its hidden rhythms. That is why we are thrilled to introduce our on-the-ground partner in Morocco, Ryan Magri from Alizés Travel.

We sat down with Ryan to discuss the magic of the Kingdom, from the Imperial Cities to the Sahara dunes, and to learn what makes a trip to Morocco truly unforgettable.

The Story Behind Alizés Travel

Sunday Vacations: Ryan, it is a pleasure to introduce you to our community. Can you tell us a little bit about Alizés Travel and your history in the region?

Ryan Magri: It’s wonderful to be here. Alizés Travel is a family-owned Destination Management Company (DMC) based in Casablanca. We have over 35 years of experience creating tailor-made journeys across the Kingdom. We’ve been welcoming travelers since 1992, operating under three brands, including Alizés Private, which is dedicated to luxury and experiential travel. For us, working in travel isn’t just about logistics; it is about creating connections between people, cultures, and emotions. Every itinerary we build is designed to be a story-authentic, human, and memorable.

SV: What inspired your family to start this journey?

Ryan: My father founded the company out of a deep love for Morocco and a desire to share its essence with the world. Three decades later, our passion remains the same: showcasing Morocco’s diversity with a personal touch and constant innovation.

Unlocking the Destination

SV: Morocco is often described as a land of contrasts. What makes it unique compared to other destinations in the region?

Ryan: It is absolutely the land of contrast. You have the desert and the ocean, mountains and Imperial Cities, ancient tradition and modern creativity. It is one of the few places where you could technically ski in the morning, ride a camel in the desert at sunset, and enjoy a dinner by the beach that same night.

SV: For a first-time visitor, what are the absolute must-sees?

Ryan: There are three main pillars every traveler should experience:

  • The Imperial Cities: Marrakech, Fez, Meknes, and Rabat for the history and architecture.

  • The Sahara Desert: For the magic of the dunes and the luxury bivouac camps.

  • The Coast: From Essaouira to Tangier, for authentic life by the Atlantic and Mediterranean seas.

SV: We love taking our members off the beaten path. Are there any hidden gems you recommend?

Ryan: Absolutely. Chefchaouen (the Blue Pearl) is iconic, but the Rif Mountains still feel timeless. For active travelers, the Aït Bouguemez Valley-known as the "Happy Valley", is a secret paradise for trekkers and nature lovers.

SV: When is the best time to experience all of this?

Ryan: Morocco is a year-round destination, but the "sweet spots" are:

  • Spring: March to May

  • Autumn: September to November

During these months, the colors and weather are simply perfect. However, winter is great for desert adventures, and summer is beautiful along the breezy Atlantic coast.

The Alizés Difference

SV: You mentioned that you specialize in "cultural immersion." How do you ensure your trips are authentic and sustainable?

Ryan: We walk hand-in-hand with local artisans, guides, and rural cooperatives. For us, sustainability means respecting traditions, protecting nature, and creating real benefits for local communities.

When we ask international travelers what they appreciated most, they rarely just mention the landscapes. They talk about the human warmth. They talk about our guides and hosts. The genuine spice of Morocco is the connection with the locals—that sense of "feeling at home, far from home."

SV: Do you have a favorite memory from a recent trip?

Ryan: I remember a group that celebrated a birthday in the Sahara. We arranged a surprise with local musicians under the stars. There was dancing, laughter, and even tears of joy. It was a simple moment, but it captured the true magic of Morocco.

A Taste of Culture

SV: Let’s do a quick rapid-fire round for our foodies. If you could recommend one dish, what would it be?

Ryan: Moroccan cuisine is vast, but I would say a traditional Lamb Tagine with prunes and almonds, paired with fresh Mint Tea. It is simple, elegant, and full of flavor.

SV: And finally, do you have a favorite local proverb about travel?

Ryan: We say: "Li ma raf lejnass, ma raf ahlo." It means: "He who doesn't know other lands, doesn't really know his own people." It’s a reminder that travel opens the heart and teaches empathy.

SV: Ryan, thank you for sharing your insights. We are so excited to collaborate with you.

Ryan: It is a pleasure. We share the same spirit-creating connections beyond travel. We look forward to welcoming the Sunday Vacations community soon. As we say here, Bismillah—Welcome to Morocco!
